Why I do this

A lot of perfectly good laptops end up in a drawer, or worse, the bin, just because they've slowed down or fallen out of support. Linux can bring them back to life — for free. This isn't really about making money; it's about helping people, and keeping working computers out of landfill for a bit longer.

Give your laptop a free new lease of life

If your laptop feels slow, or Windows has stopped supporting it, I can install Linux on it for free. It's a fully remote service — you post it to me or drop it off, and I'll send it back ready to go.

Choose your version

Linux Mint
The one most people should pick. It's the best-tested, most widely used option, and feels familiar if you're used to Windows.
Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE)
Built on a slightly different foundation. Also excellent — I'm happy to help you pick whichever suits you if you're not sure.
Please back up your files first
Installing Linux replaces what's currently on the laptop, so anything not backed up will be lost. Backing up your own files is your responsibility before it's sent to me — if you're not sure how, just ask and I'll point you in the right direction.

Support Plan
£9.99/month
Optional. Ask as many quick questions as you like by support ticket — like "how do I find my downloads folder?" Cancel any time.
£40 an hour
For anything that needs proper troubleshooting or diagnosis — like "my printer isn't printing." No plan needed, just pay for the time spent.

If something on the support plan turns into proper troubleshooting, I'll always tell you before it becomes chargeable at £40 an hour — you'll never be billed without knowing first.

A proper website, without the agency price tag

Two ways I can build your site, depending on what you need.

Static website
£199 inc. VAT
A simple, fast 4-page website — for example home, about, services and contact. Updates are included, so if you need something changed later, that's covered.
I use AI tools to help write and lay out the content quickly, which is how I can keep this at a fixed, low price.
WordPress website & hosting
£22.99/month
If you'd like a WordPress site — for a blog, or more flexibility — I'll build it and personally look after the hosting: updates, security and backups all handled.
This is for small brochure or blog-style websites. It isn't suitable for online shops or membership sites, which need extra safety nets this plan doesn't include.
Coming later: private cloud storage and calendar hosting (a Google alternative), for anyone who'd like to keep their own data on their own terms.

FOSSCharlie is just me — no team, no call centre, no sales targets. I got into Linux and open source years ago and never looked back, and I set this up to share that with people who might not otherwise get the chance to try it.

A lot of what I do isn't really about making money. It's about keeping perfectly good laptops out of landfill, and helping people feel confident using their computers without being talked down to or ripped off.

Everything is done remotely by post or online, so it doesn't matter where in the country you are. And prices are always clear before anything is chargeable — no surprises, ever.
